Janne Puhakka, Finnlands erster Eishockeyspieler, der sich als schwul outete, wurde im Alter von nur 29 Jahren brutal aus dem Leben gerissen. Am Sonntagabend soll sein Ehemann, mit dem er über zehn Jahre seines Lebens teilte, ihn erschossen haben.

Vor fünf Jahren, im Jahr 2019, hatte Puhakka den Mut, seine sexuelle Orientierung öffentlich zu machen. Er brach mit den Tabus einer Sportart, in der Maskulinität und Stillschweigen oft dominieren. Trotz einer Karriere im Eishockey, die für viele junge Menschen ein Traum bleibt, trug Puhakka eine Last mit sich.
Er sprach von den ständigen Schwulen-Witzen in der Umkleidekabine, von der Unsichtbarkeit, die viele LGBTIQ*-Athleten fühlen – und von der mentalen Blockade, die ihn jahrelang zurückgehalten hatte. Sein Coming-out war ein Hoffnungsschimmer für viele, die in ähnlichen Situationen feststecken und für Puhakka ein Befreiungsschlag.
Puhakka, der sich nach dem Ende seiner Eishockey-Karriere 2018 für die Rechte der LGBTIQ*-Community einsetzte, lebte lange in einer geheimen Beziehung zu seinem Partner, einem 66-jährigen Tierarzt. Die beiden lernten sich vor zehn Jahren kennen, als Puhakka in Kanada spielte. Der Altersunterschied von 37 Jahren war ihnen zunächst unangenehm – oft stellte er seinen Partner als Onkel vor. Dennoch überwanden sie diese Hürde und bauten sich ein gemeinsames Leben auf. Doch dieses Leben endete in einem schrecklichen Verbrechen.

Die finnische Polizei ermittelt noch, aber als Grund für die Tat geben die Beamten das Ende der Beziehung an. Puhakka sei bereits aus der gemeinsamen Wohnung ausgezogen. „Was passiert ist, ist nicht ganz klar, aber der Hintergrund ist das Ende der Beziehung.
