Ende der 1950er, Anfang der 1960er boomte vor allem in UK und in den USA Soulmusik von Girlgroups. Doch es dauerte ein paar Jahre, bis es auch Soulmusik aus Australien gab. 1968 dann machten sich vier junge, talentierte und auch attraktive Aborigine-Frauen von Australien ins nahe Vietnam auf, um als The Sapphires die amerikanischen Truppen zu unterhalten.
